From a seven to a ten: Getting unstuck

Julie Murphy • February 3, 2011

From the outside looking in, you’ve got it all together. You’ve held up well in the economy. To others, you physically look great. And you’re slowly chipping away at your debt while still having a little fun. But you know you can do – and be – better. You’ve been longing for a breakthrough, but  you just haven’t done it because you’re comfortable. You’re stuck at a seven, and you want to be at a 10. Try one of these ideas to get unstuck and actualize your personal goals.

Scare yourself

Does public speaking freak you out? Volunteer to moderate the next department meeting at work. Find the weight room at the gym intimidating? Walk in there and do one set of one exercise one time. Or maybe you haven’t worn a bikini in public in over 5 years. Why not try one on right now and head to the nearest pool. Doing (and succeeding at) things that scare you push you towards your ultimate goals. And usually you find out that the thing that you were so afraid of wasn’t so scary at all.

Do things alone

Things are easier if you have a partner to distract or encourage you; that’s why I want you to do something by yourself. Go to a networking event and make it a point to have conversations with at least three people. Or take a weekend getaway by yourself. Being alone is an excellent way to get to know somebody pretty special. You’ll find your time alone will get you in touch with who you really are and what you really want.

Find like-minded people

You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Eye-opening, isn’t it? Meeting some other like-minded “10’s” will push you towards your “10” potential. You’ll see them succeeding in a way similar to what you aspire to, and you’ll be motivated to push past that final hurdle that’s held you back.

The whole point of this is not to conquer fear, ditch your friends or be a loner; it is to become the courageous “10” that you know you can be. We get so comfortable in our lives; we have the same routine with the same people day in and day out.  Doing one (or all) of these things will give you a jolt. And those sparks will kick-start your path to unstuckness and turn you into the “10” you know you can be. Remember, only you have the power to change your life.
