Having it all: is it possible?

Julie Murphy • December 6, 2012

blog-image Some women just seem to have it all, don’t they? Great family, supportive friends, an ideal job situation and the perfect house, wardrobe and hair to go with it. And somehow, they manage to make it look so easy.

Materially speaking, there’s a big focus on having it all. Often, we are judged by the number of things we possess with our character being a distant second. We envy those women who seem to be swimming in successful personal, professional and financial lives; and we’re left to constantly wonder how they do it.

But there is a misconception here. Maybe those you wish you could be more like are swimming in debt from keeping up appearances. Or others whose “dream lives” you wish you had are killing them from stress and anxiety. To truly have it all, you must refocus your attention. Energize the things that money can fuel, not the material possessions that money can purchase. In short: you must focus your energies on your life purpose.

How does this look in your every day life? Living in line with your authentic self means letting go of the things that aren’t aligned with your inner wealth. Replace activities that you’re lukewarm about with things that enhance the life that you desire. Reorganize your free time so it fuels your deepest desires. Use your finances to create the life that you dream of. When you are living authentically, you don’t have the space in your life for things that don’t truly matter to your big picture.

Action step
This week, focus on the things that you truly desire. Don’t think outside the box; approach your situation like there is no box. Ignore status quo and let go of what you’re supposed to want, because if you truly want it all you’re going to have decide what your “all” is. Examine your life and determine what you can do without – whether it be certain friends, shopping, eating out, etc.

Start eliminating the things in your life that don’t make your final cut and devoting time and dollars to the things that are the most important to you. With your leftover money, don’t blow on things that don’t really matter; instead, invest it into your passion, save it for the future or use it clean up your past. Having it all is completely possible; it all depends on your definition of a full life.
